Michael Cavlan on Homeland Security

Green Challenger

Patriot Act is simply a means to control the people

Q: Does the Patriot Act harm civil liberties?

A: Strongly oppose the Patriot Act. It has been touted as necessary to our security. Because it strips us of many of our civil rights, I consider it simply a means to control the people of the United States

Transfer military funding to veterans' benefits

Q: Would you support or oppose more spending on the armed forces?

A: We oppose more spending on military. Keep the funding where it is now, but reallocate it to raising military pay and benefits. A very large portion must fund veterans health and well-being, as well as their families who suffer the same as the veteran who comes back from war.

Dealing with terrorism militarily is counter-productive

Terrorism is a complex subject. It cannot be boiled down to a statement as simple as "you're with us or you're against us." Trying to deal with terrorism militarily is not only counter-productive, it is strategically wrong, and immoral as well.
